Securities Trader

Foord is looking for a securities trader to join its dealing team on an established securities trading desk. We welcome applications from both junior traders looking to build a career in trading, and more experienced traders able to provide senior cover and take on greater responsibility over time. The successful candidate will work closely with, and understudy, our lead securities trader, with the opportunity to grow into a more senior trading role on the desk.

Key responsibilities

• Execute trades on behalf of clients and internal portfolios, preferably across multi-asset class securities

• Liaise with brokers and counterparties to source liquidity and ensure best execution

• Monitor market conditions, positions and risk limits

• Provide cover and support to the lead trader, and deputise where required

• Maintain accurate trade records and comply with regulatory and internal controls

• Support broker relationships and recommend suitable allocation plans. 

What we're looking for

Suitable candidates should preferably have at a minimum:

• 1 – 3+ years' trade execution experience for JSE-listed securities

• A business or management studies degree or equivalent

• Passed, or be working towards, the JSE and FAIS regulatory examinations (RPE's & JSE registered securities trader; FAIS RE5)

The following experience would be beneficial but is not essential:

• Execution experience in international markets and across multi-asset class securities 

• Experience in trading derivative instruments

• Established broker relationships

All candidates should have:

• Sound financial markets knowledge and understanding

• A passion for investment markets and securities trading

• Accuracy and attention to detail

• Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team

• Knowledge of the Bloomberg trading platform

Preference will be given to suitably qualified candidates from designated groups.

A competitive, market-related remuneration package will be offered, commensurate with experience.
